ULTIMO SEMANA EN GUATEMALA...

My last week in Guatemala before I hit the road to Honduras tomorrow, but this is the first draft of this post and just touching on the key points (to be roundly expanded further) once I am sure I am not cutting into key beer drinking time...

1. Semouc Champy and El Retiro - heading out on a marathon two-and-a-half day journey from Xela up north to Coban, first through Guatemala City and then Coban where I spent the night, I finally plunged into the magical realm of Lanquin and the caves of Semouc Champy. In short, we tubed down the river, explored the batcave, waded through underground rivers and waterfalls in another cave, jumped off bridges and swam in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Along the way I shared a Huka (Hubbly bubbly) with an attractive writer from Utah, hung out in a hammock a lot and spent way too much time on buses or in the back of pickup trucks. After a great few days I hit the road further north to Tikal...

2. Tikal: After three minibuses and a rictic later, I landed at Los Amigos Hostel in Flores, the backpacker base for visiting the ancient Mayan ruins of Tial nearby. The ruins are in the middle of a massive jungle and were the setting for the rebel base in Star Wars (the first one....) so I, being a novice Jedi, had to go. Pictures to follow, but it was awesome! Shared the experience with two cute Israeli girls, which always add value. Had a great night hanging out, and was off the next day!

3. Rio Dulce: On a whim I decided to stop at the jungle lodge on the largest lake in Guatemala. Swiftly I allowed myself to be convinced to do a horse ride, a 5h00 morning kayak to go spot jungle monkeys and along the way, with the help of kooky new friends Ryan and Sarah, we proceeded to name the as-yet-unknown-but-soon-to-go-global science of Piquentology, which comprises of juxtaposing toy goats in amazing scenes of nature. More to follow on this, a picture tells a thousand words.

4. Currently sligthly tipsy and about to go join in on the fun of Garifuna festival in Livingstone, tomorrow this country sees the back of me, but it has been AWESSOOMMMEEE. I will be back - just like Arnie!
